Construction Industry is the Most Dangerous in the Country

A recent study has found that construction work is the most dangerous occupation in the country.

Statistics have found that more than 1,000 construction workers will die in 2009 from a construction-related injury, and hundreds of thousands more will suffer a serious or debilitating injury. In addition, for every 100,000 construction workers, 23 will die in a work-related accident.

Certain factors increase the risk of accident and injury, some of which include:

  • Scaffolding defects
  • Exposed electrical wiring
  • Ladder falls
  • Operating machinery
  • Accidents or injuries involving powered industrial trucks
  • Lack of respiratory protection

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, more than six million Americans work in the construction industry at more than 250,000 construction sites. While scaffolding accidents pose the highest risk of danger, people who work in trenches and with electrical equipment or systems are also at an extremely high risk of injury or death.
