Injuries and Deaths Plague Carnival Cruise Lines

In the latest in a string of cruise ship injuries and fatalities, a Carnival Cruise crew member died earlier this week while working on the outside of a ship docked in its New Orleans port. The crew member was part of a maintenance team carrying out routine work on the Carnival Conquest when he was crushed to death between a lift and a lifeboat platform.

Earlier incidents this year which have troubled the popular cruise line include the death by drowning of a six year-old boy in a pool on one of its ships as well as the breakdown of the Carnival Triumph in the Gulf of Mexico, which stranded more than 4,000 passengers for five days. At the time of the little boy's drowning, he was playing with his brother and was supposedly being supervised by parents. The cruise line does not provide lifeguards at its pools.

In the breakdown of the Carnival Triumph, ensuing conditions aboard the ship were described by passengers as terrible. The ship listed to one side, had no lights or water, and bad sewage problems resulting in foul odors and sewage-soaked floors and carpets. In another tragic incident for the cruise line, an 18 year-old high school senior succumbed to alcohol poisoning while on an eight-day cruise. A cruise spokesperson denied that the boy had been served alcohol while onboard by ship personnel.

Personal Injury and Cruise Ship Accident Lawyer in Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Fort Lauderdale is a commonly-used port for cruise lines heading to the Caribbean and other destinations. Thousands of travelers board cruise ships every year from this city as well as other Florida cities as they embark on exotic vacations. While most cruises go off as planned, cruise ship injuries and deaths can and do occur, as shown above. Where negligence on the part of the cruise ship is the underlying cause of such injuries, health damage, or death, they may be held responsible for the damages and losses they cause passengers.

Poor or improper safety precautions, security, inspections, and maintenance may lie at the heart of the personal injury or wrongful death claims and lawsuits against cruise line companies.
