Florida Car Accident News

Recently, in mid-September, an innocent driver in Florida was killed when his car was struck in a t-bone smash-up with a suspected gunman who was fleeing police. After killing a woman and her daughter in Miami, the gunman fled the scene in his Mercedes SUV. On U.S. 27 in Broward County, he hit the other driver, causing both vehicles to spin out of control. The gunman later shot himself. The innocent driver of the car he slammed into lost his life in a needless act of reckless violence.

In another car accident case which occurred in Fort Lauderdale, the families of two men killed by a drunk driver received a joint award of $2.2 million by a jury in a wrongful death settlement. The case was pursued by family members after the 22 year-old female driver plowed into them as they stood in a parking lot. The driver's blood alcohol concentration was .17 percent according to toxicology reports, which is more than twice the legal limit in Florida. She was charged with DUI manslaughter, unlawful blood alcohol level manslaughter, and other related offenses. The criminal case against her is still pending. The families of the two men who died accepted the civil case settlement in lieu of a long-drawn out court case. They felt it best to do so, in order to move on with their lives, according to their attorney.
