Worker Injured on Docked Cargo Ship

By Law Offices of Jason T. Corsover  Jun. 3, 2013 4:21p

A Fort Lauderdale man was hurt recently while working on a cargo ship at Port Everglades. The worker, 52 years old, was standing on top of a stack of cargo containers while loading operations were underway. He was struck by a container that was either being loaded or unloaded and received a serious leg injury. Emergency officials were called to the scene and had to treat the victim where he was, several stories above the level of the dock. It took about an hour to stabilize his leg and then get him down from the top of a stack of cargo containers on the ship. Rescuers set up a tower ladder next to the victim's location and carefully brought him down to the dock. He was then transported by ambulance to a local hospital where he was listed as being in stable condition.

Do you have a premises liability case?

If you were hurt while on a property such as a business, shopping center, private home, apartment building or other such location then you may be entitled to compensation for your injury. Discuss your case with a personal injury lawyer as soon as possible to find out how to best pursue your legal options. Premises liability cases can include a wide variety of circumstances such as an injury from slipping on slick flooring, tripping over unmarked hazards, falling on stairs, being hit by falling objects, being exposed to toxic substances and many other such examples. Property owners, maintenance workers and managers hold a responsibility to keep the property free of dangers to those legally invited, working or conducting business on the premises. Loose handrails, poor lighting, cracked or uneven concrete, insufficient walkway drainage and lax safety standards can all cause someone to sustain a serious injury.
