The 2011 traffic crash report published by the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles in Florida shows that traffic accident injuries and fatalities have continued their downward trend. Overall traffic accidents decreased in 2011 from 2010 by close to 2 percent. Average crashes per day decreased from 645 in 2010 to 625 in 2011. In 2011 there were 2,400 fatalities from traffic accidents, which were down by 1.80 percent from 2010. Injuries in 2011 numbered 181,654 which was a decreased of 6.89 percent from 2010.

The only areas of traffic accident increases were in alcohol-related fatalities, drug-related fatalities, and drug-related injuries. Alcohol-related fatalities rose by 15.87 percent in 2011 from 2010. Alcohol-related injuries decreased by 2.89 percent. Drug-related fatalities rose by 79.25 percent and drug-related injuries rose by 62.59 percent. This is the largest increase in any of the traffic accident statistics. It is in line with many other statistics across the nation which show that drug-related accidents are rising due to the growing use of all types of drugs, from medical marijuana to prescription drugs among the population. Motorcycle crashes also increased in 2011 on Florida roads and highways with 18 percent more motorcyclists killed.

Personal Injury Attorney in Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Experiencing a traffic accident is one of the most stressful incidents that can occur. Those who have been injured in such accidents may face long-term medical care, the inability to work, and threats to their financial security. That is why personal injury laws were enacted to protect those harmed through the negligence of others. Obtaining the legal compensation that fully reflects the extent of your injuries, however, may not be easy. You will generally have to deal with an insurance company that may wish to discount your claim.
