Fire Fighters Injured in Vehicle Accident, Involved Car Leaves Scene

By Greenberg & Stein, P.C.  Nov. 15, 2013 2:44p

Five fire fighters were injured in a wreck while responding to an emergency. The accident happened on a recent evening at about 9:10 p.m. on the New York State Thruway. The men were traveling east in their fire truck in rainy conditions to attend to a traffic accident when a westbound car started veering into oncoming traffic. Reports state that the car partially crossed into the fire truck's lane so the fire fighter driving had to swerve to avoid the vehicle. The truck successfully avoided hitting the car but began skidding on the wet road. The driver tried to regain control of the large vehicle but wasn't able to before it hit a guard rail which caused the truck to flip over onto its side. All five fire fighters on board were transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The specifics of the injuries suffered were not available. The car that had caused the fire truck to swerve left the scene. Authorities are hoping to find the driver of that sedan but have not given out any details yet regarding leads or potential suspects. Hurt while on the job? Make sure you know your rights by talking to a personal injury attorney as soon as possible.

Not all accidents that happen while a person is working are the fault of that individual's employer and there may be a need to prove the liability of a third party in order to obtain the full compensation you deserve. While an injured employee is usually covered by workers' compensation benefits, he or she may find their claim reduced or possibly delayed if the injury accident is considered to be the fault of another party. This "other party" may be a driver that hit a delivery truck or other business/work vehicle, the manufacturer of defective machinery, etc.
