Worker Safety Concerns Rise after Series of Recent Fall Accidents at Construction Sites

By Greenberg & Stein, P.C.  Feb. 22, 2013 10:35a

Several construction workers have been injured or killed while on the job in recent weeks due to falls and crane accidents. The first construction site falling accident occurred at the site of the new NYPD police academy building. A man took a 12 foot fall down an elevator shaft and suffered serious injuries. Emergency responders used a rescue basket lowered down the elevator shaft to retrieve the worker so he could be rushed to the hospital. Two days later, a 42-year-old man was killed while working at a site in Queens where a new apartment building was being constructed. The worker was on the first floor of the building and fell through a hole which went into the basement. He struck his head on a steel girder during the fall before landing on the basement floor. EMTs transported the worker to the hospital but the injury was too severe and he died. Earlier in January seven workers were injured when a crane collapsed at the site of a new apartment building being constructed in Manhattan. Begin working with a construction accident attorney as soon as possible if you or a loved one has been hurt in connection to a construction site incident.

Injured in a slip and fall accident at a construction site?

Construction sites may be best described as "controlled chaos". There are any number of workers, heavy machinery, equipment, lines, cords, wires, lumber, tools and other material seemingly strewn about the location that are all necessary to building. Additionally, there will be walls, flooring and other structural components in various states of completion. All of these factors can lead to disaster if those working at the site are not very alert to what is happening in their surroundings or if there is any instance of being slack on safety regulations. If you were injured at a job site due to a co-worker's or employer's negligence, defective equipment, malfunctioning machinery, etc. then you may be able to recover financial damages.
