3-Year-Old Girl Killed by Family’s Rottweilers

An 18-year-old man tried to save a 3-year-old neighbor’s life, in early March as she was being viciously attacked by the family’s pet Rottweilers.

Blake Muller, 18, was at his mother’s home in Hopkinton, LA when heard the sounds of dogs barking and growling across the street. Initially, he had no idea the dogs were barking at the 3-year-old girl that lived at the family’s residence. He went outside to investigate, only to see the victim, Vanessa Husmann, 3, was beneath the two dogs on the family’s back porch. As soon as he saw the little girl, who he had known since birth, he bolted across the street.

Muller said that he kicked the dog that had his mouth around Vanessa’s neck and he struck the other dog that was biting her leg. Just then, the two dogs dropped the 3-year-old and turned to attack Muller. Muller ran, jumping the fence as the dog’s followed. The victim’s parents, Vaughn Husmann and Rhonda Marty were not home during the attack. An out of breath Muller dialed 911 from his home, telling the Delaware County Sheriff’s dispatcher that two dogs had attacked a little girl and asked them to send an ambulance. Vanessa Husmann was rushed to Jones Regional Medical Center in Anamosa, where young Vanessa was pronounced dead upon arrival. The girl was being watched by her 18-year-old brother who was upstairs at the time of the attack, who was not aware that the dogs were out of their kennel. The two Rottweilers responsible for the little girl’s death were euthanized shortly afterwards.
