Bottled Water Recalled After Source Contaminated With E. Coli

A bottling firm in California has voluntarily recalled several brands of bottled water after discovering that one of its sources was contaminated with E. coli. Niagara Bottling said that it was voluntarily recalling water that was produced at its Pennsylvania manufacturing plants between June 10 and June 18.

According to Niagra's spokesman, Stan Bratskeir, contamination was discovered at Far Away Springs, a water provider located in Auburn, Pennsylvania. Fortunately, most of the contaminated water didn't make it to store shelves.

When Niagara was informed about the potential presence of E. coli at the spring source, it immediately shut down operations, disinfected all of its bottling lines and initiated a voluntary recall in the interest of consumer safety.

Which brands were recalled?

The recalled water was sold under several brand names, including Acadia, Acme, and Niagara, Nature's Place, Morning Fresh, Shoprite, Wegmans and others. ACME markets, which has stores in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, was one of the supermarket chains involved in the recall.

Other supermarket chains involved in the recall were Shaws groceries stores, which operates in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont, and Wegmans in Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Virginia.

Symptoms of E. Coli

While most varieties of E. coli are harmless and only cause brief diarrhea, there are a few nasty strains, such as E. coli 0157:H7. This strain can cause severe abdominal cramping, bloody diarrhea and vomiting.

Healthy adults usually recover from E. coli within a week, however, young children and vulnerable adults are at a greater risk of developing a life threatening form of kidney failure known as hemolytic uremic syndrome.

If you have developed serious side effects after being exposed to E. coli, you are encouraged to reach out to a personal injury attorney to discuss filing a claim for compensation.
