Motion Filed to Consolidate Pharmaceutical Drug Litigation for Pradaxa Cases

A motion was recently filed to gather the nearly two dozen Pradaxa lawsuits that have been filed throughout the country into one to create a "Multidistrict Litigation" or "MDL" case. A number of lawsuits have been filed against the pharmaceutical company that manufactures Pradaxa. The drug was approved by the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) in late 2010 as a blood thinner to help prevent the occurrence of strokes in certain patients. Since its original approval, the FDA has required that the company update its warning label numerous times. The most recent change occurred early this year when it was required that the label notify users of bleeding dangers and the fact that there is no drug or other substance that can undo the blood thinning effects of the drug. Lawsuit Claims Drug is Dangerously Defective

One woman that has filed a lawsuit against Pradaxa manufacturers has claimed that it is a dangerous drug due to being defective and that the German manufacturing company employed "questionable marketing practices" (Case No. 3:12-cv-00615). In total, 21 cases against the company have been filed in 12 federal courts, all making similar claims concerning the defective or dangerous nature of the drug.
