Hit-and-Run Accident Results in Death

Severe Head Trauma

The skateboarder suffered severe head trauma and other injuries when he was struck on Sunday night while skating in San Tan Valley. According to police spokesman Tim Gaffney, the victim flew through the air and landed in the dirt 15 feet away from the roadway. The driver did not stop.

The Victim

The victim was immediately flown to a Phoenix-area hospital where he later passed away from trauma sustained during the accident.

The Sheriff's Office is still trying to identify the hit-and-run driver and vehicle. The vehicle has been described as a white SUV that probably has visible damage on the right front end. The SUV was last seen heading northbound on North Gantzel Road.

An accident is defined as a "hit-and-run" when the driver of a vehicle is involved in a collision with another vehicle, property or, human being, and knowingly failed to stop and provide his or her name, license number, and other required information to the injured party, witness, or law enforcement officer.
