Defective Products Recalled in May, 2013

By McLeod Law Group, LLC  May. 20, 2013 1:57p

Consumer products which pose a safety risk to those who use them are often recalled by the product manufacturers or by the Food and Drug Administration after receiving reports of adverse reactions or consequences. In some cases, consumers are injured prior to the recalls and may have grounds for an injury claim against a negligent manufacturer held to strict liability laws. In May of this year, recalled products included portable heaters made by Quartz, riding lawn mowers made by Toro, and convection ovens made by Foshan Guanmei Electrical Company.

The portable heaters were sold at Family Dollar Stores from September 2012 through December 2012. These Optimus Tower Quartz heaters have been recalled due to a problem with overheating which can pose a fire hazard to users. Ten reports of overheating were made which included some in which the temperature knobs melted. The riding lawnmowers, 2012 and 2013 Toro Z Master Commercial 2000 Series ZRT, were also recalled due to the potential of a fire hazard due to a component which could rub against the fuel tank. The Touch Point convection ovens were also recalled due to a tendency to overheat, posing a risk of fire. Lists of recalled consumer products can be found at recalls.gov which provides information to the public in various categories, from motor vehicles to food, medicine, boats, cosmetics, and more.
