DPS Officer Seriously Injured after Slip and Fall

By Law Offices of Gerald L. Marcus October 23, 2013

A Los Angeles Department of Public Safety (DPS) officer suffered a severe head injury after he slipped and fell while on duty in early September. The officer, S.P., was working at an event at Loyola Marymount University on a recent evening when the accident occurred. He normally performed his duties using a "Segway" and patrolling around campus outdoors. He is well-liked and known for handing out cheerful greetings to students as he performed his patrols. On the night of his accident his duties required that he work at the indoor event. He was reportedly on his way to the hall where the event was being held when he slipped on the flooring and fell down. He landed hard on his head and was unresponsive. EMTs rushed him to the UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center in critical condition. He remained in critical to serious condition for several weeks but seems to be slowly recovering. While S.P. continues to be hospitalized in the hospital's intensive care unit, he has regained consciousness and is now able to speak. Types of Premises Liability Accidents

If you were injured while on someone else's property because the building or grounds were not in a safe condition then you may be entitled to compensation from the property owner. Property owners have certain responsibilities for ensuring the safety of someone who is either invited or otherwise legally allowed onto the property (these responsibilities do not extend to trespassers). Examples of unsafe conditions which could result in serious injuries include slippery flooring, uneven walkways, loose or missing railings, poor lighting, falling objects, holes or obstacles, dog attacks as well as poor security resulting in an assault. An owner may be liable for injuries and other damages suffered as a result of any of these situations.
