Recent Transplant To Santa Clarita Neighborhood Struck By Alleged Drunk Driver
After moving into a house in Agua Dulce with her boyfriend, a woman was killed when her neighbor allegedly ran her over while intoxicated.
According to initial reports released by law enforcement officials regarding the incident, the victim was out walking her dogs along with her boyfriend on Saturday, August 13th. At approximately 8:00 p.m. that evening, the woman was struck when a vehicle allegedly driven by her next-door neighbor swerved and hit her.
The automobile in question, a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado, was the property of the man who lived next door to the 57-year old woman and her boyfriend, according to members of the California Highway Patrol investigating the incident.
"Due to intoxication, (the driver) failed to see (the victim), and the right front of his vehicle subsequently struck her," a patrolman clarified in the report.
Friends Mourn Loss Of Victim
The incident is reported to have occurred on Mabana Street, not far west from White Fox Lane. During the collision, two of the couple's four dogs were also struck by the offending pickup truck.
The daughter of her boyfriend gave testimony to investigators, saying that the victim was like a mother to her. She had been dreaming of moving into Agua Dulce, a neighborhood to the east of Santa Clarita for years, the daughter told police. The woman had finally gotten her wish just eight months previously, when the couple moved into a house on White Fox Lane.
The suspect, a 67-year old man, lived in a house just next to theirs. He has been arrested and charged on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, though troopers say they are awaiting the results of a blood alcohol content test before they can be certain.
