Police Shoot Two Dogs

Foley, Alabama – Foley police officers said they had to shoot two aggressive dogs after they threatened two officers in March. The owner however, feels the police officers went too far.

According to Foley police, they went to a home after receiving a complaint about a vicious dog roaming the streets. By the time police arrived at the dog’s home, both a mother dog and her male companion were back inside their yard. Police said they made several attempts to reach the owner for approximately twenty minutes, however all attempts to reach him had failed.

The investigators report that the two responding officers approached the dogs slowly, while trying to gain their trust so that they could be secured.

The owner of the dogs heard about what happened next from his neighbors. One of the officers picked up a chain, and then one of the dogs started to growl at him. The officers told some neighborhood kids to take off down the road. A moment later, four or five shots could be heard.

According to reports, the male dog was aggressive towards an officer who opened fire upon that dog. The female dog then became aggressive towards the officers, so the officers fired upon her as well. The mother dog left behind eight small puppies that remain in her owner’s care. If you have been a victim of a dog bite or vicious attack, you should speak with a Mobile personal injury attorney as soon as possible in order to find out if you can file a personal injury claim.

The Lieutenant for the Foley Police Department said that the dogs have a history of vicious behavior and complaints. A woman who lives nearby said it was only a matter of time before somebody was seriously hurt by the dogs. Supposedly both adults and children in the neighborhood were afraid of the dogs and others had been chased by them in the past.

Alabama is among the southern states that have a wealth of dangerous dogs, especially Pit Bulls. The wide open spaces are a welcoming environment where dangerous dogs run loose. Just because people have large yards, doesn’t mean they don’t have to take responsibility for the actions of their dogs and, all pedestrians should feel safe to walk within neighborhoods.
