Switching Lights off Attracts Attention of Sheriff's Deputy in Missouri

After noticing a driver pass by without headlights on a dark roadway, a deputy pulled him over and discovered that he had been in an accident. According to the initial report filed by the sheriff's deputy, the incident took place in the early hours of the morning on November 29th.

The law enforcement officer was patrolling along his route near Buckhorn, at the junction of Missouri 17 and Red Oak Road, at approximately 1:10 am when he noticed another vehicle approaching. Allegedly, the driver switched his headlights off as it passed him on the roadway. The deputy immediately turned on his siren and pulled the driver over. The traffic stop resulted in an arrest on suspicion of DWI and the transportation of the man's passenger to the hospital for injuries.

Passenger Injured In Car Accident That Took Place Just Before Stop

As he made the stop, the deputy claims he noticed damage to the vehicle. Upon approach, he concluded that the driver had been in a crash recently, due to the nature of the damage the car had sustained. While talking to the driver, the officer questioned him about his recent activities and soon determined that the driver was responsible for an accident that had taken place only a few minutes prior near Spruce Road. The female passenger in the vehicle revealed that she had been hurt and was taken to a hospital.

After administering a field sobriety test, the deputy arrested the man on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. He was also given a Breathalyzer test, which registered a result above the legal limit of .08 percent. The suspect is being charged with second-degree assault as well as six traffic citations.
