A truck accident last year in Kansas City left 1 person dead and 2 persons injured. Police suspected that the driver of the semi truck was under the influence of alcohol when his truck collided with a minivan killing the woman driver, and injuring 2 others. The Platte County Sheriff's Office reported that the truck accident occurred on 29th Oct, 2013, just after 8 AM on Highway 45 near Waldron.

The investigations conducted by Platte County Sheriff's Office revealed that the man was driving the 2013 Freightliner semi truck northbound on Highway 45 when it drifted off the center line, striking two other vehicles. The Sheriff’s office reported that the semi truck first hit a pickup truck, and then collided head on with a minivan that was coming from behind. The driver of the minivan died on the spot while her 7 year old son received injuries, and was rushed to the hospital. The deceased was identified as Catherine Nienaber, of Kansas City.

The driver of the pickup truck was a 52-year-old man from Atchison. He also received minor injuries in the accident. The driver of the semi truck also suffered minor injuries in the accident. He was taken into custody after the accident. He has been charged with involuntary manslaughter for the death of Catherine Nienaber, and assault of the two persons injured in the accident.

The driver of the semi was working as a hired driver for the company that owned the truck involved in the accident. He worked for a company that contracts drivers to other companies. He is being held at Platte County Detention Center. Missouri truck accident attorneys are of the view that many people get injured in Missouri and throughout United States in similar truck accidents.

The truck accident statistics paint a grim picture. According to the latest data available, close to 15.5 million trucks ply on US roads. More than 500,000 different companies own these trucks. Another interesting fact is that most truck accidents happen on highways and interstates where trucks run at high speeds. Few accidents occur at low speeds on streets.

Missouri truck accident attorneys are alarmed by the number of truck accidents that happen in United States every year. As per the available statistics, around 500,000 truck accidents occur in United States annually. Each year, 40,000-45,000 people lose their lives in road accidents in United States, of which, 5,000 deaths are caused by truck accidents alone. In Missouri alone, more than 200 people get killed in truck accidents every year. Annually, more than 2000 people get injured in truck accidents in Missouri.
