FDA Recalls Hydroxycut Products

The FDA has issued a warning urging consumers to immediately stop taking Hydroxycut products, after a numerous reports were received claiming the product caused or contributed to serious liver injuries.

In total, the FDA has received 23 reports of serious health problems, including jaundice, elevated liver enzymes, liver damage, seizures, cardiovascular disorders, and rhabdomyolysis, which can lead to muscle damage and other serious health problems, such as liver failure. So far only one death has been reported, which occurred due to liver failure. 

Hydroxycut products are a line of dietary supplements marketed for fat burning, weight loss, and energy enhancement.  The list of Hydroxycut products being recalled by the product manufacturer include:

Hydroxycut Regular Rapid Release Caplets
Hydroxycut Caffeine-Free Rapid Release Caplets
Hydroxycut Hardcore Liquid Caplets
Hydroxycut Max Liquid Caplets
Hydroxycut Regular Drink Packets
Hydroxycut Caffeine-Free Drink Packets
Hydroxycut Hardcore Drink Packets (Ignition Stix)
Hydroxycut Max Drink Packets
Hydroxycut Liquid Shots
Hydroxycut Hardcore RTDs (Ready-to-Drink)
Hydroxycut Max Aqua Shed
Hydroxycut 24
Hydroxycut Carb Control
Hydroxycut Natural

The FDA hasn't determined yet which ingredients or dosage instructions lead to the adverse effects since all of the products contain different varieties of herbal extracts and ingredients.

The only Hydroxycut products not affected by the recall include Hydroxycut Cleanse and Hoodia.  

All consumers and health care providers are urged to report any serious side effects or problems with the supplements to the FDA's MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program online, by regular mail, fax, or phone.
