Investigation Launched into Driver’s Side Door Fires

Investigators with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration are looking into reports of fires that originated in the driver’s side door of several vehicle models. Federal safety investigators have begun going over data relating to door fires in Chevrolet Trailblazers for model year 2006 – 2007 as well as a couple Toyota models of the same year. Fires were reported as having occurred in 2007 Toyota Camry cars and the RAV-4 SUVs. No injuries or accidents were reported in connection with the fires but there was an instance of a fire starting while a Trailblazer was being driven. Preliminary investigation shows that the fires in the doors of both Chevy and Toyota vehicles seemed to start at the power window master switch located on the driver’s side. Safety investigators were alerted to the problem after receiving 12 consumer complaints.
