Cities Aiming to Protect Drivers by Limiting Cellphone Use

Cities and states across the nation are working to protect drivers by limiting cell phone use. One city has decided to take ultimate control by completely banning the use of cell phones while driving. Chapel Hill lawmakers enacted a new law this month that has set the precedent for the rest of America. While many cities allow you to use Bluetooth devices or other hands-free options for using your cell phones while driving, these will not be allowed in Chapel Hill. You cannot use your cell phone at a red light, stop sign or at all if your car is turned on and you are behind the wheel. It took two years for lawmakers to get the bill approved by all the requisite parties.

There are a few loopholes in the legislation that may help drivers. You are allowed to place an emergency phone call, and the wording of the bill may allow for parents, children and spouses to communicate with one another in certain situations. Were you hurt during a car accident? If so, take the time to consult a personal injury lawyer in your state who can inform you of your options and rights.
