Two People Arrested for Suspicion of Elder Abuse

When police found an 86-year-old woman with soiled clothing and open sores they arrested two people on suspicion of elder abuse.

Not only do police believe that Janice Bartness and Gregory Bartness allowed her mother to lie in her bed without attention, but they are also being booked on suspicion of cruelty to animals. When officers arrived at their home in Hawthorne they discovered 13 dogs that were living amidst rotten food and animal feces all over the home. The elderly woman was also wearing a nightgown that was covered in feces and urine.

Officers were alerted to the Bartness home when a tipster called in about the possibly unsafe conditions.

At this time the victim's name is not being released to the press. However police did say that she is currently being treated at a nearby hospital and will eventually be turned over to Adult Protective Services for home placement.

If someone you care for has been the victim of elder abuse, take action by hiring a personal injury lawyer.
