Teenager Killed during Single Vehicle Crash

A teenager in Canon City was killed on Sunday at 10 a.m. in a single vehicle accident. Samantha Gaunt, 17, was traveling eastbound on Fourth Street when her 1996 Ford Mustang drove over a patch of ice, spun out of control, causing her to run off the road and hit a tree.

Dr. Dorothy Twellman, the coroner for Fremont County, says that the teenager died instantly from the impact.

The primary causes of her death were neck and head injuries.

Unfortunately Gaunt, the only passenger in the vehicle, was not wearing a seat belt when she was apparently attempting to pass another vehicle on the road. The teenager was a senior at Canon City High School.

At this time police do not believe that drugs or alcohol was a contributing factor in this accident.

If you have been injured in a car accident, you should consider obtaining representation from a personal injury attorney.
