Three Men Involved in Boating Accident

Three men out for an afternoon on the lake ended their day in tragedy.

The men were on a 20-foot-beach near Wrightsville beach when their vessel struck a jetty. According to the Coast Guard, the men were unable to make the boat go faster than 8 mph due to taking on water while fishing. By the time that they were starting to reach shore, it had gotten dark out. That might be why they did not see the jetty in time.

The victim, a 71-year-old male, was thrown from the boat. Although the Coast Guard's vessel arrived shortly after the call for help went out, the victim had already been pronounced dead on the scene.
