Texting While Driving Leads to Criminal Charges

There is no text message worth answering when you are driving, a lesson which one man learned the hard way in North Carolina last week.
According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the suspect, a 25-year-old male, admitted to officers that he had been texting when he struck a motorcyclist. The 39-year-old male victim lost his life as a result of the car accident, which ultimately led to the guilty plea entered last week Asheville.
The driver was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle as well as other charges related to texting. Since the state passed the no-texting while driving law in 2009, this is the first official case to go before the courts for a texting-caused death. Many were surprised to learn that the young man was given a 60-day suspended sentence, as well as 200 hours of community service and $1,000 fine.
When you are injured in a car accident, you need to have a
personal injury lawyer on your side that can protect your rights and best interests as a victim.
