Bumbo Baby Seat Maker Sued For the 14th Time

Bumbo International Trust, the company behind the Bumbo Baby Seat, is being sued for the 14th time by product safety and personal injury attorneys at Pulaski & Middleman, LLC and Rose Walker LLP. On the 3rd week of August 2012, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission had recalled about 4 million Bumbo rubber seats from Wal-Mart, Target, Toys R Us, and other huge retailers all over the United States of America. This had been the 2nd recall of the Bumbo Baby Seat product. Based in South Africa, Bumbo International Trust is the registered manufacturer of the recalled Bumbo Baby Seat items. The product had been pulled out from the market because babies had been reported injured from falling out of the baby seat.

The law firms of Pulaski & Middleman, and Rose Walker, have represented 10 families who had injured babies. Before a personal injury lawyer could even represent the first plaintiff, all lawsuits had been voluntarily dismissed some 2 years ago. However, because the two law firms kept pushing, another lawsuit was filed to represent a family in an Austin, Texas federal court. The trial was set to start in November 2012. Because of this lawsuit, more parents of injured babies have come forward to sue Bumbo International Trust.

In December of 2011, another lawsuit was filed by a personal injury attorney to represent another family. In April of 2012, the same law firm filed a lawsuit against Bumbo on behalf of an additional family with injuries to their baby. A week after the 2nd Bumbo Baby Seat recall, a third family through the two law firms filed another case against Bumbo International. In an interview with this mother, she said her daughter fell on the kitchen floor when the baby arched her back while sitting on the Bumbo. A personal injury lawyer from Rose Walker, said that the law firms are committed to represent the families in court and they will continuously sue Bumbo International and its retailers if more parents come to their law firms for help.

According to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission report, there are some 50 babies who suffered head injuries when they fell from the Bumbo Baby Seat and from that 50 reported cases, 19 babies suffered skull fractures. There were also 34 reports involving injuries while the Bumbo Baby Seat was used on the floor. The Bumbo Baby Seat is advertised to help infants sit on an upright position when they are still unable to do so. Babies from 3 to 10 months are often the victims of such baby seat accidents because they have the propensity to rock or lean unexpectedly while sitting.

Parents are encouraged not to use the Bumbo Baby Seat until the manufacturer has provided a seat belt kit to properly fasten the baby on the seat. The kit will also come with a warning sticker which states that the Bumbo Baby Seat is intended for use on the floor only and that using it on elevated surfaces can result in injuries. Parents who have babies who were injured while using the Bumbo Baby Seat are encouraged to seek the help of a product liability attorney to expedite filing of a case against Bumbo International and its retailers.
