By Weinstein & Scharf, P.A.  Feb. 24, 2013 4:35p

A Coral Springs man, 47-year-old B.O., was driving a van when he was rear ended by another man riding a scooter. B.O. had slowed and then came to a stop due to traffic in front of him but the 21-year-old man riding the scooter failed to stop and collided into the back of the van. The accident happened around 3:30 in the afternoon on a recent weekday according to information on the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office crash report. The driver of the van was not hurt in the accident but the driver of the scooter, who was not wearing a helmet, suffered severe injuries. The 21-year-old, T.C., was rushed to a local hospital by emergency responders. He was listed as being in critical condition. Crash investigators have not released information on the precise cause of the crash as far as any fault by the driver of the van, mechanical defect in the scooter or if it was inattention by the rider which resulted in the serious injury accident. Reports did state that intoxicants were not a factor. If you or a loved one was seriously injured in a car accident then you should speak to a personal injury attorney as soon as you can to make sure you know your legal rights and options in such a case.

Injured in a motorcycle or scooter accident?

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, those on a motorcycle or scooter are 37 times more likely to suffer fatal injuries in a traffic accident than the occupants of a car, truck or other enclosed vehicle. While the inherent risks in operating a motorcycle or other such mode of transportation are obvious, that does not mean that the drivers of cars, etc. are absolved of being alert to the presence of motorcycles on the roadways and taking due precautions when sharing the road with them. You may be entitled to substantial compensation for all damages suffered in a motorcycle accident caused by another's negligence or recklessness.

Make sure your legal rights are protected after an injury crash!

Motorcycle accidents can result in severe injuries including broken bones, spinal cord damage, lacerations, contusions, head trauma, internal bleeding, amputation, paralysis and others. Internal injuries or serious brain trauma could result in death. It is important to consult with a personal injury lawyer as soon as possible after suffering injury or the loss of a loved one in a crash where another driver was at fault.
