Texas Truck Accident Kills 14

A pickup truck carrying 23 people veered off the road in near the Texas city of San Antonio, killing 14 and injuring the rest in late July of this year. The F-Ford 250 was apparently carrying illegal immigrants from Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras when it crashed. After an investigation by authorities, it was determined that a front tire which was damaged and losing its tread may have been the reason for the crash. After veering off the road, the white pickup crashed into two trees. The passengers included men, women, and children. Some were thrown from the truck while others were trapped inside the cab and the truck bed.

According to authorities from the Texas Department of Public Safety, the passenger load for that type of vehicle was one of the highest they had ever seen. Apparently, human traffickers often overload their vehicles with illegal immigrants in an effort to maximize their profits. In a similar Texas accident near the Texas-Mexican border the previous April, 9 out of 18 immigrants crammed into a minivan died. Because of the human smuggling aspect of the July incident, the Border Patrol was called in to assist with the accident investigation. Fortunately, the truck did not collide with any other vehicles, which could have added to the death and injury toll. The above grim story is an example of how poorly maintained or defective auto equipment or parts can result in deadly accidents.

Austin Truck Accident Lawyer

Being involved in a truck accident, especially if it occurs with a large commercial truck such as a tanker or 18-wheeler can result in grievous injury or death to other motorists with whom they share the roads and highways. Due to enormous length and weight, these trucks take longer to stop, often have several blind spots, and require constant maintenance as well as alert drivers who follow the rules of the road. Furthermore, where commercial trucking companies are involved, such accidents are handled by the company's own investigators and legal staff working on their behalf. Such cases can be complex, which means that you will need a personal injury attorney who is experienced with the legal strategies required to fight on your behalf where negligence has occurred.

At the Loewy Law Firm, you will find a legal professional who possesses the skills and proficiency needed in such cases. Attorney Adam Loewy has been practicing personal injury law exclusively for a decade, has been distinguished as a Super Lawyer, and a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, a select group of attorneys who have won over a million dollars in verdicts and settlements for their clients. To get the help you need after a truck accident or other type of personal injury accident, contact the firm to arrange for a case evaluation today.
