Car Accident Lawyer: NTSB Proposes Safety Improvements for 2016

By Christopher Hoffmann  Feb. 8, 2016 9:29a

Every year, car accidents cause injuries to thousands of Americans and leave many others dead. Unfortunately, a large percentage of these accidents are caused by human errors and negligence. Transport authorities have been taking steps to prevent accidents, and setting up programs for driver education. Keeping up with it's efforts, The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has released its list of most wanted transportation safety improvements for the year 2016. The list focuses on the importance of including more technological improvements in the vehicles and train systems to help prevent crashes in the future.

The National Transport Safety Board (NTSB) believes that with inclusion of better safety features in vehicles, the number of injuries and crash related deaths can significantly decrease. For example, the NTSB has proposed that highway vehicles should have more collision prevention technology and there should be an increase in occupant protection in all modes of transport.

They have also proposed mandatory laws to enforce the use of child restraints and safety belts across India. Apart from the technological advancements in highway transportation, NTSB also notes that there should be more safety initiatives for the railways such as the implementation of positive train control, which is a system that closely monitors and controls train movements, and helps the conductor to get information about the train's location and where it is allowed to travel safely.

Last but not the least: the NTSB also discusses how undiagnosed medical conditions, driver distraction and fatigue increases the chances of accidents. They proposes that Federal regulatory authorities need to be medically fit in order to perform their duties well.

Drivers Need to Be Aware of Their Rights

The safety improvements suggested by NTSB should be extremely helpful in preventing crashes, but it may take a long time, and even with all the safety features in place crashes cannot be prevented completely. Those who get injured in car accidents must be informed about their legal rights.

It is important for everyone to know that if the accident is caused by the negligence or carelessness of another driver, the victim can make a claim for financial compensation. Many victims of car crashes abstain from making a claim, and even if they do, they settle for an amount which is much lower than what they deserve. It is important to seek medical attention, even if your injuries seem minor. Also, report the crash to the police and insurance company as soon as possible. It is also important to get in touch with an experienced and competent St Louis Car Accident Lawyer, who can protect your legal rights and help get the compensation that you deserve.
