After a car accident, you may require the services of a
St. Louis car accident attorney to guide you through the claims process. The attorney will want certain documents related to your accident to help understand your case and help you in recovering
compensation for damages.
1. Insurance Policy
The attorney will require a copy of your automobile insurance policy to determine the type and amount of recovery that you may be entitled for.
2. Policy Premium Receipts
Provide copies of the periodic policy statements or bills and premium payment receipts to prove that the policy is in force and all the requisite payments have been made.
3. Information Exchanged at the Accident Site
Provide the names and telephone numbers exchanged between the parties involved in the accident.
4. Police Report
When the police are called on an accident scene, an accident report is provided which includes a diagram indicating the position of the cars and pedestrians at the time of the accident and the officer’s assessment of the cause of the accident.
5. Tickets Received
If you have been issued a ticket such as ‘failure to yield’ or any other ticket related to the accident, bring this to your Missouri car accident attorney.
6. Photographs of Damage
Take photographs of damage sustained by your car and the other cars in the accident.
7. Statements
If you have been approached by your insurance company and have been asked to give a statement, provide a copy to your attorney.
8. Medical Records
If you have sustained injuries in the car accident and have sought medical attention, provide the medical records along with the doctor’s report about your injuries and the likely period of recovery.
9. Psychological Records
A car accident may have psychological effects on a victim and may require treatment by a psychologist or a psychiatrist. If you have undergone any such treatment, provide these records along with the name and address of the psychiatrist to your attorney.
10. Pay Records
If you were injured in the accident, you may have missed work for some days. The injuries may also affected your ability to work and your wages reduced. Provide details of your earnings pre-accident and post-accident so that the Missouri car accident attorney can make calculations for your
lost earnings.
