Investigation Ongoing Into Recent Highway Accident In New York
A Long Island native was killed on Wednesday when his motorcycle allegedly collided with a car on the interstate, the Journal News reports.
The incident is reported to have occurred at about 11:30 a.m., law enforcement authorities announced in a recent report on the accident. The driver of a motorcycle was traveling along Interstate 84 that morning, heading westbound. The weather was allegedly somewhat dangerous, as the area was experiencing heavy rainfall that morning. The collision is believed to have occurred at the exit for Interstate 684, exit 20.
When emergency response units arrived on the scene of the crash, they told reporters, they found the driver of the motorcycle in serious condition, having been critically wounded during the impact. He was quickly transported to Carmel where he was checked into the Putnam Hospital Center for treatment. Not long afterwards, he passed away and was pronounced dead of his wounds by hospital staff.
Police Hesitant To Place Blame On Blame Weather
Authorities investigating the incident closed one lane of the Interstate to conduct the inquiry, causing traffic to be backed up for several miles that afternoon. State Police were on the scene investigating until at least 1:15 p.m.
Police said that, despite the inclement weather, they were not ready to determine with confidence what had caused the accident.
“Right now everything regarding the cause of the accident is under investigation,” one investigator with the police told reporters.
The driver of the car is not believed to have been injured during the collision.
