Being in the legal field one has opportunity to see what types of lawsuits are common, and some that are becoming increasingly more popular are lawsuits relating to dangerous drugs. Many different kinds of drugs that are marketed as being safe for public consumption and approved through the FDA turn out to be unsafe. People get injured and consumers have been left with liver damage, heart attacks, depression, nerve damage, kidney failure and even suicide as a result of some of the dangerous pharmaceutical drugs that are on the market.
Anti-psychotic Drugs Found Harmful
In the late 1960's a new generation of drugs came out referred to as typical antipsychotics. These were heavily promoted as being "miracle drugs" that would successfully treat the mentally ill and return them as useful members of society. These claims turned out to be false and in an article from the American Journal of Bioethics in 2003, Vera Sharav stated that these drugs damaged the brain's frontal lobes and produced conditions worse that what the person was originally being treated for. There is increasing evidence that many of these drugs which are often prescribed by psychiatrists may cause serious side effects including blindness, blood clots, impotence and sexual dysfunction, blood disorders, seizures, violent behavior, suicidal tendencies, liver failure and more.
