Hartford Woman Dies in Parasailing Accident

A 28-year-old Hartford woman died recently while on vacation in Florida. The woman, K.M, and her husband had been on vacation for several days and were looking forward to water adventures. The couple decided to give parasailing a try during their last three days out of town. Parasailing involves being strapped into a harness which is suspended from a large parachute. The whole set up is then towed from a boat via a cable on a reel. As the boat gains speed, the parachute lifts the person or persons suspended in the harnesses below into the air. Cable is then let out by those on the boat to let the parasailors enjoy some scenery at an altitude. K.M. and her husband were suspended from a tandem harness and sailing at about 150 feet from the surface of the Atlantic Ocean when the accident happened. The woman broke free from her harness somehow and fell the 150 feet into the water. Her husband was rapidly reeled back to the boat as they circled back to search for her. She was found lifeless in the water and resuscitation efforts failed. If you were injured in a boating accident or lost a loved one in an accident involving some form of water activity then you need the help of a personal injury attorney as soon as possible.

Exact Cause of Parasailing Harness Failure Unknown As Yet

Investigations into the accident are being conducted by four different agencies. The state Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Coast Guard, National Transportation Safety Board and the local county Sheriff's Office are all participating in the investigation. Initial reports indicate that the company that offered the parasailing rides did not have a prior record of complaints or safety issues. There were no obvious signs that the harness had broken but a thorough check of each and every part of the harness, fasteners, ropes and other parts is being conducted to determine if a defect is present.
