Product Recalls Reflect Inferior Design and Manufacturing Problems

By Leonard Matsuk  Feb. 28, 2011 8:53p

Any one can look up the subject of product recalls on the internet and see for themselves the amount of products yearly that are recalled in just about every category you can think of.  It is an eye-opening exercise. Most recalled products result from someone getting injured which then prompts the company to recall the product to avoid further liability. To give you an idea as to the diversity involved in product recalls, following are just a few products that have been recalled over the past few years:

Some Recent Recalls

  • Feb 2011- According to the U.S. Dept of agriculture, ground beef products which have been sold throughout Southern California have been recalled due to a possible e-coli contamination. American Food Services was the manufacturer.
  • Jan. 2010- Toyota had recalls on vehicles due to accelerator pedal problems & expanded its recall to Europe and China.
  • 2010- Big Ideas Marketing recalls horse-on-a-stick toys with bridal and reins for repair due to strangulation hazard
  • 2010- Harry Potter Bookends are recalled by Giftco for violating lead paint standards
  • 2010- Home improvement books are recalled by Oxmoor for faulty wiring instructions in the book which could result in shock and fire hazards to consumers.
  • March 2009- A California food processing plant recalled (voluntarily) up to one million pounds of roasted pistachio products as they may have been contaminated with Salmonella.
