Worker Killed after Struck by Vehicle at Road Construction Site

F.D. was working on a road construction project on a recent weekday evening when he was hit by a car and died. The road work was being done at night to avoid compounding an already congested area when it comes to traffic. Around midnight on that night, F.D. was working in the center lane near some heavy equipment including a large steel roller. The area where the workers were underway had cones set up on either side of the site but a truck veered into the center lane and struck F.D. from behind. The truck then careened into the steel roller. F.D., who was 56 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel who answered the call to the tragic accident. The 35-year-old driver of the truck sustained severe injuries and was rushed to an area hospital in critical condition. A construction accident lawyer may be able to help you obtain due compensation if you lost a loved one or were injured yourself in a construction site incident.

Representatives from the Road Division, the company that held the contract for the work being done as well as Florida Highway Patrol are investigating the accident to discover why the driver of the truck veered out of his lane and into the construction site. Reports do not indicate whether or not alcohol or distracted driving was involved. Statistics on work zone accidents show that there are approximately 700 work zone accident deaths across the United States annually. The majority of those fatalities are drivers but about 150 are road workers.
