Brooklyn Driver Fails To Obey Stop Sign With Tragic Consequences

Authorities are reporting that a violent collision in Brooklyn caused chaos and left multiple people in the hospital, including a number of pedestrians. The driver allegedly responsible for the accident has not yet been identified, but police say they believe he is a 60-year old native of the borough.

According to the initial police reports filed in the aftermath of the deadly crash, the driver was traveling in an Acura SUV on the afternoon of Saturday, December 8^th. As the vehicle approached the stop sign at the busy intersection of West 5^th Street and Quentin Road, investigators allege, the driver was driving too fast and was unable to stop at the traffic sign.

The SUV careened out into the intersection and slammed at high speed into a Jeep Cherokee that was passing through the two streets. The impact of the collision sent the Jeep flipping over onto its roof, injuring the driver and three passengers. The out-of-control Acura ricocheted off of the Jeep and flew onto the sidewalk, colliding with a family of pedestrians who were walking home.

Locals Bemoan Lack Of Warning Signs At Intersection

By the time emergency response personnel arrived at the scene, nine people in total had been seriously wounded in the accident. The driver of the Jeep, along with the three passengers, was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. One of those victims, a male, was listed as being in critical condition.

The four pedestrians were also transported to nearby Lutheran Hospital. A 60-year old woman, critically wounded in the accident, was later pronounced dead due to complications arising from injuries sustained in the crash. Her husband, along with their 32-year old daughter and infant granddaughter were stabilized, and medical professionals say they should survive.

Witnesses reported that when EMC's arrived at the scene, the husband was pinned beneath the Acura, and the car had to be lifted up to rescue him from the wreckage. No charges have yet been filed in the wake of the accident, with authorities saying the investigation is still ongoing. Residents of the neighborhood, calling the intersection a 'death-trap', told reporters they wanted speed bumps and warning signs installed to help prevent future fatalities.
