San Francisco Bicyclist Injured in Accident with Muni Bus

By Bostwick & Peterson, LLP  Mar. 7, 2012 3:21p

On Tuesday, March 5, a San Francisco man was riding his bicycle new Market and New Montgomery streets around five in the afternoon when he became involved in a serious bicycle accident. It has been reported that the bicyclist has been riding close and parallel along the sides of a San Francisco Municipal Railway Bus when a tire on his bike became stuck in the tracks. The bicyclist was thrown off the bike and the bike was run over by the bus. The bicyclist was immediately taken to a local hospital to receive medical treatment.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2008 there were over seven hundred bicyclists who were involved in fatal accidents – accounting for two percent of all traffic-related fatalities throughout the entire year. Despite common belief that those injured in bicycle accidents are younger adults and children, the truth is that the average age of someone injured in a bicycle accident was 31 in 2008 – an increase from the average age in 1998, which was 24.
