San Francisco Drunk Driver Strikes Several Victims Before Fleeing Scene

According to a press release issued on behalf of a family visiting San Francisco, their nine-year old son is beginning to recover from injuries sustained a week ago.

The family had traveled to California from their hometown in Pennsylvania, where they were known to friends and family as huge Phillies fans. For their summer vacation, the family decided to visit San Francisco and see the four game series between their favorite team and the San Francisco Giants.

While walking out of a victorious game for the Phillies, however, their festive mood was dashed when a driver in a pickup truck turned at high speed onto Mission Street, striking two pedestrians who were walking through the crosswalk. The two victims, the boy and a 58-year old woman from California, were seriously injured in the calamitous crash. The driver fled the scene in a panic before law enforcement agents could arrive.

Suspect Alleged To Be Intoxicated During Accident

Acting swiftly, police apprehended the man they believed to be responsible, a twenty-one-year old who had recently graduated from California State University. He was taken into custody and administered a blood alcohol content test, which according to authorities showed him to be over the legal limit to drive.

A friend of the suspect, claiming to have been in the car at the time of the accident, told police that he and the driver had both panicked when they saw what had happened and fled the scene, only to regret their hasty actions afterwards.

The alleged drunken driver has been charged with felony hit-and-run, driving with an open container, and driving under the influence of alcohol. He is currently being held at the San Francisco Sheriff's Department jail.
