San Francisco Family Hospitalized After Automobile Accident

A Sports Utility Vehicle carrying a family of six was involved in a high-speed collision with a parked police vehicle on Friday, November 23rd, leaving two dead and the other four severely injured. The trooper, a member of the California Highway Patrol, had stopped to render aid to a disabled vehicle shortly before the crash occurred.

According to initial reports filed in the aftermath of the fatal accident, the victims were driving north on highway 101. The family was allegedly returning to their home in southern San Francisco after spending time shopping for Black Friday deals in Gilroy. The SUV was being driven by a 48-year old Indian-American man, traveling along with his wife and four daughters.

Shortly before the crash took place, a patrolman with the CHP had noticed a pickup truck that was stopped on the shoulder of the highway not far from an exit. The officer pulled over and got out of the car, intending to offer assistance to the stranded driver. At this point, according to initial details, the approaching SUV carrying the victims sideswiped the stopped patrol vehicle, ricocheted away and flipped over multiple times before coming to a rest.

Police Allege Slain Girl Failed To Wear Seatbelt

Investigators say they are unclear on the exact cause of the initial collision. According to the accident report, one daughter, 24, was ejected from the SUV and sent flying through the air. Emergency personnel declared her dead at the scene of the crash. The other five family members were transported to nearby Stanford Hospital for treatment. The second fatality, a 20-year old daughter, succumbed to her injuries shortly after being admitted to the emergency care center.

Hospital records indicate that the father and two other daughters were stabilized and given treatment for injuries. The mother, however, remains in serious condition, although she is expected to survive the accident. An officer with the CHP stated that two members of the family, including the 24-year old victim, were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.
