New Zealand Shuts Down McDonald's Due to Glass in Hamburger Buns

When you are taking a bite of a Big Mac, the last thing you’d expect to taste is a shard of glass in your burger. Yet in many McDonald’s across the country of New Zealand, consumers experienced this shocking surprise. According to The Huffington Post, a glass light bulb shattered at the bakery where the McDonald’s hamburger buns are produced.

Workers suspect that the class from the burst bulb then contaminated the dough for the bread. No injuries have actually been reported in connection with the broken glass buns, and the New Zealand Herald reports that the risk for injury is very low. The company found the shattered bulb near a vat of dough and decided to recall buns out of safety.

As a result of the glass buns, 50 McDonald’s in New Zealand were shut down. They eventually reopened earlier last week with the breakfast menu as they waited for new shipments of the buns that are used to create their famous burgers. Some store managers say that the public was angry when they arrived at the eatery only to find that it was closed. The store managers apologized for the inconvenience but explained that they would have the stores up and running as soon as they could guarantee glass-free burgers.
