Street Racing Results in Death of Two Teens

Friends racing each other in Kearny Mesa led to the death of two teenage boys and the hospitalization of three people. Police are investigating the drunk driving accident and have since detained the driver of the second vehicle. According to the police report, the friends, all teenagers, were in two separate vehicles that were racing down a highway in Kearny Mesa. The vehicles are believed to have been traveling at speeds exceeding 100 mph when one of the drivers lost control of his vehicle. It flipped, ejecting two teenage boys and trapping several more teens inside.

The two victims, an 18-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy, were pronounced dead on the scene. Three more people were taken to area hospitals with minor to serious injuries. The driver of the second vehicle, an 18-year-old boy, was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of marijuana. He could face additional charges in the future.
