Shocking Pedestrian Accident Statistics

A recent study released by professors at one college shows that 500 people per year are seriously injured in pedestrian accidents that involve bicycles.

Although this figure may seem small for a metropolis of its size, 500 people are enough to warrant concern amongst city officials. This figure was culled from data collected by the State Department of Health between 2007 and 2010. The professors looked only at victims who were hospitalized after being hit by a bicycle, not just those who were struck moderately.

This research is already under fire as a separate study conducted in 2009 shows that across the whole country, just 1,000 pedestrians were struck by bicycles. Despite which study is more accurate, New York City officials have something to think about for the future safety concerns of pedestrians.

Pedestrian accidents happen every day around the country.  If you are a pedestrian who was hurt during a collision, take the time to discuss your case with a personal injury attorney.
