Fire and Rescue Truck Involved in Crash

A fire and rescue truck headed for a 9-11 remembrance in New York City was involved in a car accident last week in North Carolina.

Police reports show that the fire and rescue truck was just outside of Charlotte when another vehicle quickly pulled in front. The driver of the truck had no time to avoid the accident, causing an impact so severe that both the driver and passenger were pinned inside. When firefighters arrived on the scene, they determined that the "jaws of life" was needed to extricate the two safely. Nearly 15 minutes after they set up the machine, the two were released and taken by medical helicopter to a nearby hospital.

Although the two were listed in critical condition at the time of the car accident, they are expected to make a full recovery. The truck was following a group of 50 bicyclists that were headed to New York as part of a remembrance ride for the events of September 11th, 2001.
