Family Files Wrongful Death Claim for Alleged Police Brutality

The grieved parents of a 21-year-old man who was shot to death by police in 2008 are expected to receive a one million dollar settlement for the wrongful death lawsuit they levied. The young man was driving a rental car that was rammed by two unmarked police cars. The policemen in pursuit were undercover narcotics detectives. When the young man tried to drive away from the scene, the police officers fired upon the man, taking his life.

An investigation into the incident found that the 21-year-old was unarmed.  He and his cousin, who was unharmed in the incident, were less than a block from a family member's house when the shooting occurred.

The incident caused an uproar in the man's neighborhood even though a crime task force found the shooting to be justified.  The wrongful death claim insists that the officers used excessive force and violated the young man's rights under the fourth amendment.
