SUV Overturns during Collision

When a SUV overturned outside of Elizabeth City, a young boy lost his life while five more people were injured.

According to police reports, the driver of the vehicle, Kimberly Johnson, swerved to avoid a tractor trailer, causing the SUV to roll over, ejecting the 10-year-old boy. The little boy was declared dead on the scene while five others were brought to local hospitals for assorted injuries. The accident happened around 5:30 p.m. on the U.S. 17 bypass, just outside of Elizabeth City. After speaking with the six passengers in the vehicle, officers learned that the young boy was sitting in the middle of the back seat, while his mother sat up front with the driver.

Johnson has since been charged for driving with license revoked and misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
