Girl's Legal Guardians File Medical Malpractice Suit

Nine years after their granddaughter was born, her legal guardians have decided to file a medical malpractice suit against the hospital where she was delivered.  According to the lawsuit, the parents are demanding that the hospital pay $7.5 million for causing to girl to become disabled by botching her delivery.

They go on to say that the hospital failed to recognize the signs of fetal distress that led to oxygen deprivation in the fetus. When the little girl was born, she showed signs of mental disorder and was later diagnosed as having cerebral palsy.

Shortly after the lawsuit was announced, the hospital told the grandparents that it would provide a settlement to the family. While the hospital has not publicly admitted guilt or fault in this case, the administration is prepared to pay the settlement nonetheless. A judge is due to approve the settlement later this month.
