Wheelchair Bound Man Dies during Car Accident

In Winston-Salem, it is reported that a man in a motorized wheelchair was hit by a vehicle last Friday night.  The car accident resulted in the death of the man, 72 year old Ronald Lee Watson.

According to Winston-Salem police, Watson was traveling north on Liberty Street in his motorized wheelchair.  Out of nowhere, he was hit by a car near the southbound entrance ramp to U.S. 52.  The incident occurred around 11 PM.

A witness who saw the accident told officers that a silver Chevrolet SUV stopped for a moment after hitting Watson.  However, after waiting a few seconds, the SUV took off and headed south on U.S. 52.

Watson was rushed to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center where he died from his accident related injuries.  Officers say that his death is the ninth traffic related fatality in the city this year.
