Rutgers University Student Killed during Pedestrian Accident

Tragedy struck the Rutgers University community when a 21-year-old student was struck and killed by a pickup truck on Wednesday morning. The bike accident occurred when she was crossing Route 18 North using George Street- a 2005 Ford pickup struck her around 11:10 AM. She died at the scene of the crash.

New Brunswick Police Director Peter Mangarella and Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce Kaplan are still investigating the accident to determine the cause and whether she was walking or riding her bike across the highway. Police were forced to shut down the northbound lanes of the highway so that police and emergency medical units could respond to the scene.

At this time the student's identity is being withheld from the press. The police were still in the process of attempting to contact the woman's next-of-kin before releasing her name to the public.

Roger Hode, the driver of the pickup truck, has not been charged at this time.

The accident occurred just south of the intersection where 15-year-old George Coleman was killed while attempting to cross the highway. Due to the number of accidents in this location there has been local interest in protecting pedestrian safety.

If you have been the victim of a pedestrian accident, it is time to get help from a personal injury lawyer.
