Officer Killed on Motorcycle during Funeral Procession

An officer escorting a funeral procession in Killeen was struck and killed on Monday morning. Officer Andrew Remeas, 33, of Harker Heights, was off-duty when his motorcycle was struck by an SUV that turned into his path. He was airlifted to Scott & White Hospital in critical condition where he was later pronounced dead.

Police Chief Mike Gentry spoke about the officer's death, saying that "the City of Harker Heights is heartbroken and Officer Remeas will be greatly missed."

Officer Remeas was leading the procession when an SUV driven by a 39-year-old man and accompanied by two 7-year-old boys and a 9-year-old girl turned into the path of his cycle. The motorcycle accident occurred near the intersection with Regency Drive.   

The little girl was injured in the accident, but her injuries have been deemed as non life-threatening. At this time her name and the name of the driver have not been released to the public.
