Four Hurt during Cable Car Accident in San Francisco

San Francisco, California - law enforcement report that while on one of the cities legendary cable cars, four people sustained injuries.  The people were hurt after the cable cars jarred to a sudden stop while approaching the downtown area.

According to Municipal Transportation Agency spokesman, Judson True, two of the passengers had to be hospitalized after the accident.  The cable car's gripman and conductor were also hospitalized after the incident on Saturday.  However, their injuries are reported as being non-life threatening at this time.

The cable car had been traveling down the Powell Street line when it came to a sudden halt.  Reports state that there was a problem with the underground cable, which forced the central control to shut down the system automatically.

Since the incident, the Powell line has been shut down.  However, it is expected to resume service on Sunday.
