$9 Million Awarded in Electrocution Wrongful Death Lawsuit

A South Carolina jury has returned a $9 million verdict in a wrongful death lawsuit involving a young man who was electrocuted by a high voltage line that fell on his driveway.

The family of the young man claimed the power company that was responsible for maintaining the power line was negligent in failing to properly maintain the utility pole and for failing to respond to repair requests.

As a result of the electrocution, the man suffered serious burn injuries, and later passed away due to complications from the burns and cardiac arrhythmia.

The jury awarded the family $5.5 million in punitive damages and $3.5 million in wrongful death damages.
